When in Rome

Updated: Oct 2, 2019

About a thousand people from 110 countries gathered in Rome on 24-28 June 2019. Thinking about God’s mission in our world.

I had the opportunity to attend the International Brethren Conference on Mission recently to speak on the topic of Enabling Discipleship (it was an exposition on Colossians 2:1-7 about how the gospel is all we need for Christian growth) and also to conduct a preaching workshop.

At the preaching workshop, it was a real encouragement to see many of my brothers and sisters from around the world committed to unleashing the power of God’s word. It was a great time of learning from each other and also sharing the common constraints we all have of never having enough time for sermon preparation, being under-resourced and under-trained.

Daniel (the young adults pastor in my church) and I shared on the what and why of expository preaching and our church’s experience of planning a Colossians sermon series this year. Here are our workshop notes.

We also distributed sermon series overview documents for Colossians and 1 Corinthians 1-4 . For more information about how we produce and use these sermon series overview documents in our preaching planning, please click here.

Finally, we shared one resource we use in our church to train all our small group bible study leaders and preachers in bible handling.

It was really good to see what God is doing all over the world. Am praying that TheWordWorks will be able to play a small role in equipping God’s people for that work!
